Keep in mind, this is coming from someone who actually likes a lot of praise and worship music. I like it. I really do. I also love 30s swing music (and dancing to it, but that’s another topic). But the problem is when music like this enters the liturgy. There’s lots of different kind of music that we can love listening to, or dancing to. But our liturgical music isn’t there for us to just listen to. It serves the important liturgical purpose of being the voice of God in song, especially if they sing the propers.
Don’t fall into that trap of thinking that all music we like must be played at Mass! As the scriptures tell us, “a time for every matter under heaven.” Don’t forget that!
