Very funny, but you can give us “school -people” a bit less of a hard time, maybe?

But okay if it is drivers ed, which is only two hours of torture, thankfully!

I am always glad to hear of such good Priests as, Fr. Heilman! But I would also like to add a name of my own, Fr. John Sasse, which I certainly hope Ben, that you will dedicate a thread to him.

I am disappointed that he is being transfered so far away:-( This isn’t going to be an easy drive for “most people”, should they want to hear Mass by him. I can certainly understand keeping him in Dane County somewhere, but two counties over?

Fr. Sasse taught me to receive the Eucharish on my knees, and he never said no to me making a confession, (outside posted times). Dane County is losing a wonderful Priest:-( GOD BLESS HIM!

In a totally unrelated story, twenty-one years ago I was living in Salt Lake City. I remember a story similar to this on the local news. A young man lead a prayer at the graduation, and “most everyone” applauded. However, it was not the Lord’s Prayer, it was the standard, “Dearest Father In Heaven”, which is how “Mormon’s begin their prayers.

I’m actually kind of funny about public prayer’s at public schools. Seventeen years ago I was living in Dallas, Texas. There they have, “See you at the flag pole”. So kids gather around the flag pole before school, and pray, but there were reports that if some kids didn’t show up to pray, they were razzed by some of the kids who did. Now that doesn’t seem very christian to me.

Personally, (and this is just my opinion) I advocate for Catholic schools, and complete religious instruction by Priests, Sisters. I also advocate for a stern, not brutal, invironment of such education. If I had children, I would fully support any Catholic school that functioned on that level!

Our boat boys did an OK job, but they didn’t fill my thurible as we started, so I had to pretend I had incense until we got to the first altar outside! And, we have used more coal and incense lately, and just re-supplied, so we could not get the big clouds of smoke going (and we can get some smoke around these parts) so we had to simply hold the thuribles near our chests and swing lightly very much like during Mass. We did turn around quite frequently so…

Thanks for the compliments JP and Julie! And yeah, Having a religious vocation does not prevent one from having fun at a dance. =) Perhaps it makes it even more fun, since you can just enjoy it as friends.

Perhaps we should work on restoring our own Roman traditions first. Eastern Rite liturgies belong in the Eastern Churches. Yes, they have some absolutely beautiful liturgies, but the Roman Rite is no less splendid when celebrated properly, in continuity with the 1500 years of organic development since at least St Gregory the Great.
